Gow waits on City response
Rangers midfielder Alan Gow was today still waiting for news of a possible move to Norwich City.
Gow, 25, was in Norwich last week for talks with manager Glenn Roeder over a reported £300,000 deal and left “impressed” with what he saw.
But after a week back in training with Rangers, the former Falkirk man is still uncertain where he will be playing next season.
His agent, Phil McTaggart, said last night: “Alan was impressed with the set-up and the manager at Norwich.
“It was just a case of there being a few bits and bobs – questions we put to the chief executive, Neil Doncaster – and we are waiting to hear back from him. I am sure he will get back to us when he has the opportunity.”
It is nine days since Gow met the Canaries, but McTaggart said they were not unduly concerned over the delay.
“We all understand things take time and don’t happen just like that,” he said.
“Alan just wants to play football. He is still at Rangers and has done a full week’s pre-season training so he’s active every day.”
With City confronted by moves for a takeover at Carrow Road, it may be that making a final decision over the Gow deal has had to take a back seat for a few days.
Motherwell have also expressed an interest in Gow, but may not be able to afford him.
“I’ve spoken to Walter Smith about the player before now and I’ll be speaking to him again,” said Motherwell boss Mark McGhee.
“Alan Gow would appear to be available and we would be interested, but there is nothing more to it than that at the moment.
“I am looking for players all the time and by the start of the season we will have some new players on board. I don’t know if it is going to be in any way realistic to get Alan Gow, but he is certainly a player that we would like to have.”
The short distance between Gow’s house in Clydebank and Motherwell could appeal to him if the Norwich move fails to materialise.
